U.S. Embassy Supports Live Broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera on Radio Belgrade

U.S. Embassy Belgrade is pleased to support again this year Radio Television of Serbia's Radio Belgrade in live broadcasting of performances by the Metropolitan Opera.
Launched in 1931, the Metropolitan Opera's Saturday matinee broadcasts are the longest-running continuous classical program in radio history. The 81st season kicks off on December 3, 2011, with Handel's Rodelinda, and will last until May 5, 2012. During this period, on the frequencies of Radio Belgrade 2 and 3, the citizens of Serbia and many other nations in the world will have the opportunity to enjoy live broadcasts of sixteen different operas composed by Verdi, Mozart, Puccini, Rossini, Mussorgsky and others, along with performance of supreme artists such as Anna Netrebko, Natalie Dessay, Renée Fleming, Marcelo Álvarez Andreas Scholl, Jonas Kaufman, Mariusz Kwiecien, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Juan Diego Flórez, Placido Domingo and others.
In cooperation with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), RTS secured a package of direct live broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera and other world operas and concert halls.
By supporting this project, U.S. Embassy wishes to share with the citizens of Serbia the rich musical performances of one America's most important cultural institutions.
